Options

Open the options with File > Options, or right-click the tray icon and choose Settings…. The pages are listed on the left, as in Outlook. Click OK to keep your changes or Cancel to throw them away.

General

Start up options

  • Start Obsidian Mail Client when you sign in: starts the app with Windows. The tray menu has the same switch (Start with Windows).
  • Start minimized to the tray: starts without opening the window.
  • Closing the window keeps it running in the tray (on by default): closing the window leaves the app running, so mail and reminders keep coming. Clear it to make closing the window quit the app.

New mail

  • Check for mail every a number of minutes.
  • Instant new mail (push) (on by default): keeps a connection open so new mail appears at once. A change takes effect after a restart.
  • Show a desktop alert when new mail arrives (on by default): a Windows notification for each new Inbox message while the app is in the background, where you can type a reply and Send it, Mark as read or Delete the message.

Default mail app

Shows whether this app opens email links (mailto:) and saved messages (.eml). To make it the default, click Make default…: Windows Settings opens at Default apps; choose Obsidian Mail Client for MAILTO and for .eml. Only an installed copy can be the default mail app.

Appearance

  • Theme: the color themes (dark ones on the left, light ones on the right), or Use my Windows setting, Light or Dark. Also on View > Theme.
  • In dark mode, show messages on a dark background too (on by default).
  • Density of the message list and folders: Roomy, Cozy or Compact. Also on View > Density.

Security

  • This computer: whether your mail on this PC is encrypted, and Require Windows Hello to open Obsidian Mail Client (face, fingerprint or PIN).
  • Privacy: tracking pixels are always blocked and links open without tracking tags; Show the brand logo of verified senders (BIMI) (on by default).
  • Digital IDs (S/MIME certificates): your digital IDs, Import a digital ID (.pfx / .p12)… and Certificates in Windows….
