Docs / Obsidian Mail Client / Calendar, People & To Do
People
Press Ctrl+3, or click People on the rail, to see your contacts and contact groups.
Where contacts are kept
- On this computer: contacts you make without choosing an account. They work with any kind of account.
- Outlook contacts of an Outlook.com or Microsoft 365 account: click Connect contacts on the left and allow access once in your browser. They then sync with the account, both ways.
- Server contacts of an Exchange or Obsidian account: they come with the account, nothing to connect.
The left side shows how many contacts each place has. Disconnect stops showing a Microsoft account's contacts here; nothing on the server changes.
Find someone
Type in Search people (Ctrl+E). Click a name to see their card: email addresses, phones, company, addresses, birthday and notes, with buttons to write to them, edit or delete the contact, and the recent mail between you.
When the search box is empty, the page also lists People you write to most who aren't contacts yet. Click Add to contacts to add one.
Add or change a contact
- Click New Contact (or press
Ctrl+N). - Fill in what you know: First name, Last name, Display as, up to three email addresses, Mobile, Work phone, Home phone, Company, Job title, Department, work and home addresses, Birthday and Notes.
- Choose where it goes: On this computer, or an account's Outlook contacts.
- Click Save.
To change a contact, open its card and click Edit. To delete one, select it and press Delete.
Contact groups
A contact group is one name for several addresses.
- Click New Contact Group.
- Type a Group name and its Members (addresses separated by
;). - Click Save.
Groups are kept on this computer. Type the group's name in To or Cc and every member is put in. A group's card also has Email the group.
Address suggestions
You don't need a contact for everyone. When you type in To, Cc or Bcc, the app suggests your contacts and everyone you've written to before.
Export contacts
To save your contacts as vCards (.vcf) or as a CSV file for Outlook, see Importing and exporting.
